"'For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,' declares the Lord. 'As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.'"
- Isaiah 55: 8-11
As states begin loosing their stay-at-home orders, I can't help but feel a bit restless. So many people are saying, "I can't wait to get back to normal," but what if normal wasn't so normal in the first place? What if you were aching for something new or something different? Or worse, what if you hated your life before COVID-19?
God never brings anything into our lives without a purpose. "It will accomplish what [He] desires and achieve the purpose for which [He] sent it." I take that literally. The Lord wants to accomplish something in this time of stillness. He craves our attention and our hearts, and has answered our prayers. He has given us the time that we begged for, pleaded for, and prayed for all this time.
Could it be that He is waiting for me, for you, to sit with Him and ask Him what He wants to accomplish in our lives with this extra time? Maybe He wants to prepare you for that something new that you've been longing for. Maybe He wants to shift your priorities. Maybe He is simply challenging your perspective on what you deem normal. Whatever the case, I know He has something in store and I know that He wants nothing more than our willing hearts to respond to His call.
Are you willing to sit with the Lord and say, "I am available. Have your way in me?" Are you ready for Him to redefine your "normal?"
